WRAS Type "A" Air Break Tank

UK water board regulations now require a fluid protection category 5,  type "A" break tank to be fitted to all commercial dishwashers, these can be fitted internally on some models at time of purchase or a free standing external unit can be added to an existing commercial dishwasher.

A WRAS type "A" air break tank prevents back flow of dirty dish water into the mains water supply, which could cause contamination.

It does this by feeding  the mains supply water into an isolated water tank, from there it is pumped into the dishwasher, should there be a backflow of dirty water from the dishwasher, it will pass back into the isolated tank and not back into the mains water supply.

A type WRAS "A" break tank  is suitable for commercial dishwashers & shouldn't be confused with a WRAS double check valve which only offers fluid protection 3 which is suitable only for glasswashers

A commercial dishwasher must have a WRAS type "A" break tank to comply to current British water regulations.

It is up to the buyer to comply, checks are made by local water boards
